A Dedicated Sharpening Bench
A Sharpening Bench

June 19, 2013

I received a letter from a reader in the Knoxville area and wanted to share.

Brent has built a great version of my sharpening bench with some added storage below.

Nice job Brent, and thanks again for sharing.

If you’d like to build your own dedicated sharpening bench, check out my sharpening bench series here.

Cheers!

Tom:

My sharpening bench was a big project for me.  I learned that white oak is very tough and your tools better be sharp.  It was a combination of using half hand tools and half power tools.  I used the bandsaw some and a jigsaw to cut out for the granite.  I am sure I used my tablesaw some also.  I gained a lot of respect for you for using all hand tools and having such a high degree of accuracy.  Under the sharpening bench is the packing crate I built using all hand tools (I am now working on an all-hand-tool school box also from the Christopher Schwarz book).  I plan to work on a project or two from your first book and i’m sure I will buy your second book when it comes out.  I thought the first two Scwharz projects were a little quicker to accomplish and somewhat easier.  I am working my way up to a couple of yours or something similar with all hand tools.
I hope you and yours are having a good summer!

Brent
