Green woodworking is a fun and relaxing way to work wood. We will focus on safety and skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Wednesday evenings from six to nine pm at The Unplugged Woodshop.

Great for beginners or experienced woodworkers alike.

Learn how to carve a butter paddle and wooden spoons using traditional tools and techniques. You can feel good knowing our wood is locally-sourced and sustainably harvested here in the GTA.

WEEK ONE: AN INTRODUCTION TO KNIFE CARVING

In this class, you will get acquainted with a carving knife ( Mora ) as you carve a butter paddle ( wood butter knife ). The five most common carving strokes will be taught and practiced in this first session. You will leave this class with a carved butter paddle!

WEEK TWO & THREE: SPOON CARVING

In the second and third weeks of your class, you will carve wooden spoons, a serving size and a pocket size or two.  You’ll also learn how to safely rough out a spoon blank with a carving axe and then refine the shape using the knife skills you started learning in week one. You’ll learn how to use crooked knives as well as gouges. From knife grips to design, you will leave with something you can be proud of and eat with!
