In today’s episode I’ll begin to shape and refine the guitar headstock. Now that the ebony veneers are dry, I begin by laying out my template and a few select saw cuts.
From there it’s on to the fret saw and then some chisel, rasp and scraper work.
You’ll note that I decided to leave a point in the top of the headstock, this was one of those happy little accidents as my initial design simply had the top middle of the headstock rounded over. I scribbed in a centerline before the shaping began to keep me on track while I worked. As I removed material, the scribe line became a focal point and thus the small peak at the top of the headstock arch resulted.
By the time you’re watching this episode I should hopefully be arriving in Cape Breton and we’ll catch up with current episodes from this point on.
