In Praise of Hide Glue

March 13, 2018

Exercise caution if you decide to use higher gram strengths of hide glue they may be stronger, but they have a much shorter working (or open) time, making them unsuitable for many joinery applications.

There are many modern alternatives to traditional hot hide glue that can provide the appropriate working strength for furniture makers. We use a combination of them at The Unplugged Woodshop and if you would like to try some out, we carry Titebond Genuine Hide Glue. This is a great product since it doesn’t need to be heated before use and is reversible just like traditional hot hide glues.
